Autumn Lattice Throw Knitting Pattern – Mama In A Stitch

Welcome fall and hello chunky, snuggly, knit blankets! Today’s free knit blanket pattern features a modern diamond “lattice” stitch pattern and it works up quickly with super bulky yarn and large knitting needles. It’s made with basic knit and purl stitches and it holds your interest as you watch the lattice and seed stitch textures emerge. Yay!

See the full, free pattern below, or you may choose to purchase the printable, ad-free version from Etsy HERE or the kit from Lion Brand HERE. Mamas Maker Members can grab their printable from the library HERE.

Beautiful, snuggly texture on this timeless blanket that works up quickly. Welcome fall!

I guess it’s becoming a bit of a tradition on the blog to make a new, knit blanket for fall and winter. It’s that time of year when we want to curl up with our yarn, our tea, and make something cuddly. It’s the BEST time of year!

You might remember a couple of my autumn blankets, the Fall Cuddler and the Modern Mountains Throw (here). Did you make either of these?

Furry boots, autumn air, and a chunky knit blanket. Life is good.

This year’s Snuggly Autumn Lattice Throw is kind of fun because the stitch pattern is totally modern yet timeless. Much like the previous patterns, this one has a variety of textures to keep you interested, but it’s not so complicated that you’d want to throw it aside. Ha!

While it’s made with basic stitches, I wouldn’t suggest it for total beginners. You do need to be comfortable with counting stitches on some rows. It’s also helpful to understand what the right and wrong side of the blanket is (if you’ve never dealt with that in a pattern). These are simple things, but simple for folks who are comfortable with the basics. If you’re a new knitter, try this one instead.

There are two sizes available for this blanket. You can also make this your own by adding more seed stitch, more lattice, or whatever your knitter heart desires.

I wrote the blanket pattern in two sizes as I know a lot of you like to choose between a smaller version that will use less yarn, and a larger version.

While this one is made with the color cream (one of my fave colors!), you can easily make this in any color that you like. I prefer to use light colors when there’s texture like this as dark colors can often “hide” the texture. With that said, you can certainly use any color you want and make it your own! What color would you use?

If you love this blanket and you’ve never knit, you can totally learn! You can see my how to knit tutorial and video HERE. Once you learn to knit and purl, you can come back and make this blanket. If you want a simpler one, try my Quick & Cuddly Throw HERE or my Native Stripes Blanket HERE.

Let’s hop to the pattern and get our autumn knit on!

This fun, textured blanket is made with the stockinette stitch, seed stitch, and a diamond stitch pattern. The diamonds are worked over an eight row repeat. The stitches used are simple, but it is important that you keep track of your rows for this pattern!   If you would like to adjust the width of the blanket, keep in mind that the center pattern must be a multiple of 8 stitches plus 1 extra, excluding the garter stitch edges for the border (6 sts on each side).  This stitch pattern isn’t reversible, so there is a wrong side and a right side.  To adjust the length, simply knit for more or fewer rows while following the stitch pattern (keep yarn needs in mind when changing the size). If you’re experienced, feel free to make this your own by adding more seed stitch, more diamonds, or your own stitch patterns, etc! Finish with the Final Garter Edge. Have fun and get ready to snuggle up!
